Many species of urethane, observed in their natural habitats: bike lanes, hairpins, parking garages, the long way home.
Diameter is the number that changes how a wheel feels most. Taller wheels roll faster and float over cracks and gravel; smaller wheels accelerate quicker and keep your board low and flickable. Under 70mm suits mini cruisers and double-kicks. Over 85mm, plan on risers.
Lower is softer: more grip, more cushion. Higher is harder: easier slides, more durable, faster on smooth pavement. Our 80a is the sensible middle, and the one we hand to friends.
Sharp lips hold a line; rounded lips let go smoothly. An offset hub lets the outer lip flex and grab the road; a centerset hub can be flipped for even wear and keeps your footprint narrow.
Two wheels calling your name? Take the softer one for comfort and grip, the harder one for slides and longevity, and the 80a if you'd rather not decide.
A brief and mostly accurate history
Orangatang Wheels was hatched in Southern California in 2008 as a means of advocating for the civil liberties of the region's indigenous river capybaras. The capybaras, to their credit, never asked for our help.
Somewhere in there we started pouring urethane, and it turned out we were good at it. The capybaras are doing fine. The wheels are doing better.
We pour what we want to ride. The small mammals have relocated.
